Challenger Specs

Challenger is a 42 ft Whitby 42 ketch, hull number 209, manufactured for Whitby by Fort Meyers Yacht and Shipbuilding in Florida, USA.

The Whitby 42 is a very strong, full keeled, heavy displacement cruiser designed by Ted Brewer.

The Whitby 42 has a modern center cockpit with aft stateroom and walk-through arrangement. Forward is a large V-berth. There is a forward head with shower. In the salon, an L-shaped settee dinette arrangement is offset by sofa seating with batteries and tool storage underneath. A U-shaped galley is aft to port.  For tall people, the Whitby 42 salon, galley, and V-berth has 6'6" headroom.

There is a navigation station with cushioned seating, and a "map table", with VHF and SSB radio.

The passageway to the aft cabin also includes more map storage, and provides a nice work bench and tool storage area.

The aft cabin has a full width bunk with en-suite head and shower.  Headroom in the aft cabin is 6'2".

The hull has balsa cored topsides. Below are alternating layers of mat and woven roving with polyester resin. The hull and deck are joined with an internal flange, which is glassed together and mechanically joined with stainless steel rivets. Where there are deck fittings (cleats, genoa track, etc), the joint is also bolted. Inlaid is a molded liner to stiffen the hull and provide interior structure..
